[Who am I]
Hello! I’m Ana Rita, a data analyst by profession and a skincare nerd by hobby.
[What is Skinlytics about?]
This projects is about a data analytics & data science approach on skincare product reviewing and comparison. I thought it would be fun to explore the data side of skin care and at the same time provide tools for anyone to use for their own analysis.
[For whom is Skinlytics for?]
For everyone that loves skincare, data or both.
[My background]
My academic background is in economics and statistics, I worked 2 years in Analytics for an online marketing startup and recently graduated from a Data Science bootcamp.
On top of that, during the pandemic I discovered skincare and became more and more interested in knowing about it.
[Why did I decided to start this project?]
We live in a time and age where everything is being pushed on us by marketing and recommendation algorithms. In skincare and beauty industry, this is even stronger, with many products poping out in the market and even more people talking about them and recommending them.
As a skincare enthusiast, all of this can be very overwhelming (and expensive). And also not the healthiest/most sustainable way of consumption.
I noticed skincare reviews can be very non objective, even comming from people with similar skin type/concerns. A sample with one or few data points is not enough to gain insights weather this product will work for you and can also be very biased, considering other factors like lifestyle, climate and water quality from your residency area.
With this blog, I want not only to share the knowledge I gathered from my own personal experience but also to use my data skills to gather more broad and insightful perspective on a product, considering its ingredients list, the sentiment and the topics around that product in the internet. I also want to provide interactive visual solutions that enable to explore the differences between products that at first sight look very similar.
Mission
Bring objectivity to skincare reviews using data analytics & data science tools/techniques.
Vision
It's meant to be a fun platform where skincare and data addicts can have fun exploring data.
Values
- Informative
- Transparent
- Fun to use
